Athletics Fiji signs MOUs

Athletics Fiji in conjunction with Oceania Athletics and the Pacific Sports Partnership Program (PSP) donated a brand new Kids’ Athletics Kit and entered into an agreement with the Fiji National Sports Commission (FNSC) as well as the NGO Think Pacific.

Together the organizations are looking to achieve a mutual goal of bringing Kids Athletics to communities and schools all over Fiji.

The agreements are major objectives of the PSP Program funded by the Australian Government where the aim is the progressive establishment of physical activity in Primary Schools and Communities throughout the Fiji Islands for a healthier and more inclusive community. Athletics Fiji Development Officer Albert Miller Snr and Athletics Fiji President Joseph Rodan Snr acknowledged the various programs and the nationwide reach of the Fiji National Sports Commission and how the agreement will aid the objective of the PSP program.

The Fiji National Sports Commission and Athletics Fiji have loosely worked together with the Kids Athletics Program all over the country since 2013, but an MOU has only been signed now.

With a new Kids Athletics Kit, FNSC’s development officers will be able to effectively run Kids’ Athletics Programs around Fiji. The Kids’ Athletics program was developed by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to educate kids into sport in general and thus promote a balanced and healthy lifestyle, and to attract and sustain the potential sporting stars of tomorrow. The program is not intended only for clubs and Member Federations but also for schools and all institutions interesting in keeping people active.

One of the great benefits and objectives of the Kids Athletics program is to modify the games and activities for all ages and abilities. The equipment can be used in many ways and makes Athletics truly a Sport for All.

Think Pacific is a volunteer organisation that offers unique and different volunteer programs compared to that of big international volunteer companies. With over 50 different projects since 2015, Think Pacific offers Athletics Fiji the reach and impact the organization has established in Fiji. New and old partners are looking forward to the further spread of the program and the message that a healthy and active lifestyle benefits all.
