7 May 2023 is World Kids’ Athletics Day! A day dedicated to celebrating children and young people across the globe participating in athletics and being active.
World Athletics’ theme for the 2023 Kids’ Athletics Day is MOVE, PLAY, EXPLORE. Whether moving from A to B, playing athletics activities with friends, or exploring new skills, the aim is to encourage kids to get out there and have fun being active.
Across Oceania, many of our federations were involved with the movement; some highlights include;
Fiji hosted a celebratory day at a primary school. Over 200 kids participated in a variety of challenges.
Kiribati held multiple kids’ athletics events, from the local school to a remote community. A great success for our smallest nation.
Australia and its Member Associations are joining in on the fun throughout the month with several initiatives in each State and Territory and a campaign to showcase athletics as a fun way for kids to get active.
Northern Mariana Islands held their annual PSS McDonald’s All Schools Athletics Championship, which incorporated a variety of events for young athletes to be involved in.
New Zealand celebrated Kids’ Athletics Day with an under-12 mile race, held as part of a weekend of running events alongside the Rotorua Marathon.
