Rose To The Occasion – Davies Does Historic Double

31 July 2026 Rose Davies has completed a historic distance double on Day 4 of the Athletics and Para Athletics at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026, with medals also going the way of Oceania in the shot-put circle and in the para sprint races

Davies took both the 5000m and the 10,000m, sealing the double in an epic sprint finish to stop the clock at 14:44.53. Teammate Jessica Hull took home the silver in 14:45.01. Davies becomes the first woman in the Commonwealth to complete the 5000m and 10,000m double. Linden Hall crosses the line in 7^th.

Tom Walsh takes his 4th Commonwealth Games medal, throwing 21.03m for silver in the Men’s Shot Put in a closely contested field behind Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi. The medal follows Walsh’s 2014 silver, 2018 gold and 2022 gold in the same event. Nick Palmer finished 6th and Jonathan Detageouwa (NRU) 10th with a season’s best. Penisimani Taeiloa (TGA) recorded no measure in the Final but becomes Tonga’s first male representative in a Commonwealth Games Shot Put Final.

Para athletics star Anna Grimaldi crossed the line in 12.46 for bronze in the T47 100m, behind the Canadian duo of Sheriauna Haase and Chloe Dunbar.

The Men’s Decathlon reaches the halfway mark with New Zealand’s Max Atwell in 9th on 3849 points. Cook Islands athlete Max Teuruaa sits 12th on 3435 and is ahead of his national record mark after a series of personal bests during Day 1.

Oceania Champion Desleigh Owusu jumped a season’s best of 13.81m in the Women’s Triple Jump, just missing the podium in 4th.

The Women’s One Mile saw the Australian trio of Claudia Hollingsworth, Jessica Hull and Abbey Caldwell qualify for the Final.

Following their lead, the Australian trio in the Men’s 800m of Peter Bol, Peyton Craig and Luke Boyes booked their place in the final.

World Under 20 Triple Jump Champion Ethan Olivier (NZL) books his place in the Triple Jump Final. Also on the field, Cameron McEntyre booked a place in the Men’s Javelin Final.

Australian sprinters will feature across the finals, with Lachlan Kennedy and Torrie Lewis progressing to the 200m Finals and Thomas Reynolds into the 400m Final.

Day 5 of the athletics programme gets underway at 10am local time in Glasgow.
