Historic Sprint Records and Golds at Commonwealth Games 2026
29 July 2026 Oceania’s athletes have delivered a second day of gold medals and record breaking performances at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, headlined by historic sprint medals, sprint records, and an Australian sweep of the 10,000m titles.
Zoe Hobbs is the Commonwealth 100m champion. The New Zealand sprinter broke her own Oceania record to run 10.93 in the Final. Torrie Lewis broke her Australian Record for the second time that day, running 10.99 to take the bronze and become the second Oceania woman to run sub 11 seconds for the 100m.
Ky Robinson won the Men’s 10,000m in 27:48.98, with Australia taking out a historic double in the Men’s and Women’s 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games.
Lachlan Kennedy stormed home to silver in the Men’s 100m behind Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, in a new Oceania Record of 9.85. Kennedy shattered the previous mark of 9.93 set by Patrick Johnson.
Eleanor Patterson returns to Glasgow 12 years on to reclaim the gold in the Women’s High Jump, clearing 1.96 to equal the Games record. Fellow Australian Nicola Olyslagers claimed silver. The High Jump closed the competition on Day 2 of the Athletics and Para Athletics, after repeated attempts to restart the event in the pouring rain.
In the hammer cage Lauren Bruce proved strongest of the Oceania trio, taking silver in the Women’s Hammer Final. Australia’s Lara Roberts took bronze in the pouring rain of Glasgow, with Stephanie Ratcliffe placing 7th.
At the conclusion of Day 1 of the Heptathlon, Mia Scerri leads the Oceania group in 3rd place overall on 3560 points. Tori West sits 5th, Briana Stephenson 7th and Maddie Wilson 9th.
In the morning session the 800m Heats saw Peter Bol, Peyton Craig and Luke Boyes (AUS) join James Preston (NZL) through to the semi-finals. In the 400m Round 1, Reece Holder qualified for the next round. PNG’s William Peka ran a personal best time in the 400m Heats.
