American Samoa Returns to Oceania Stage in Darwin

American Samoa is set to return to the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, led by national triple jump record holder Matthew Fiso.

Fiso heads into the championships in strong form after breaking the national record at the Polynesian Championships in Auckland in March. Now based in the United States, he will contest both the long jump and triple jump, with his focus on pushing his marks further and continuing to rewrite the record books in the jumps.

He will be joined by two debutants in the American Samoa team. Suatia (George) Poloai and Raeden Sanitoa are set to make their first appearances at Oceania level, both lining up in the 100m, with Poloai also taking on the long jump.

For Fiso, the opportunity to represent American Samoa on the regional stage remains a significant one.

“It means a lot to represent American Samoa at the Oceania Athletics Championships,” he said.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity and proud to compete at this level. My goal is to execute a performance that reflects the work I’ve put in.”

With a mix of experience and new faces, American Samoa returns to the Oceania stage ready to compete in Darwin.
