It is with much sadness that we advise the recent death of our colleague and dear friend David Little. David lost his battle with cancer overnight on Wednesday of this week at home in Dorset, he was 86 years old.
David was one of the founding members of Kiribati Athletics Association and spent many years in the role of General Secretary. David spent his every waking hour coaching young athletes in Kiribati, he made a difference to the Federation – he was a one of a kind.
Although David left Kiribati more than 10 years ago, he never stopped being engaged with the Federation. David would still answer emails for KAA up until earlier this year and was always available to offer advice to the Committees that came after him. David was a familiar face at many of our Oceania events over the years, and many of you will remember that he joined us in London in 2017 at the World Championships.
He received the Oceania Merit Award in 2004. When David left Kiribati, he returned home to England where he continued with his love of Athletics. In his inimitable style was still supporting athletes, organising teams and officiating at events up until recently, his enthusiasm and drive always was always immense at his local club, Poole Athletics.
David was hugely loved and respected across athletics in Dorset where he spent his later years, with his skills and knowledge of our sport being passed on to numerous athletes and volunteers over the time. David will be laid to rest on 7th September in Poole and we are sure that his friends in the Pacific will have a special thought for our dear friend on that day.
We will miss David’s sound advice and his incredible passion for our sport and for his beloved Kiribati. May David rest in Eternal Peace.
