IAAF World Championships
Recently the IAAF held the 16th edition of the IAAF World Championships that began on Friday August 4th in London, United Kingdom. It was a spectacular event that brought in a massive crowd.
During the competition the Oceania Region, was represented by 17 federations, comprising of 92 athletes in 41 different events.
Overall, there was 2034 athletes, from over 200 federations who went to the British capital to compete in the Queen Elizabeth Stadium.
Some of the Oceania highlights, include Gold Medals to Tomas Walsh (NZL – Shot Put) and Sally Pearson (AUS – 100m Hurdles), an Oceania Record to secure a silver medal to Dani Stevens (AUS – Discus Throw) and two National Records, Patricia Taea (COK – 100m) and Quentin Rew (NZL – 50km Walk). IAAF Diamond League
Sixteen IAAF Diamond League champions will be chosen on Thursday (24) at the Weltklasse in Zurich, the first of two 2017 IAAF Diamond League finals.
14 reigning Olympic champions will be on the stage before a sell-out crowd of 25,000 at Zurich’s Letzigrund Stadium. In eight events, the two will be going head-to-head in the battle for the Diamond Trophy and each discipline’s US$50,000 winner’s check in a new championships-style format introduced this year.
