Congratulations to newly elected OAA President Robin Sapong Eugenio of the Northen Mariana Islands

Congratulations to newly elected OAA President Robin Sapong Eugenio of the Northen Mariana Islands

OAA Member Federations assembled today for a Special Congress to fulfil the role of Area President, a position previously held by Norfolk Island’s Geoff Gardner. The OAA Special Congress elected Robin to the position of Area President, effective immediately, until the next election in 2023.

Robin has been an OAA Council Member since 2007, and General Secretary for Northern Mariana Island Track and Field Federation since 2008. Earlier this year, Robin received The IAAF Veteran Pin, recognising Robin’s exemplary service to the cause of World Athletics.

Robin was humble in accepting the role and has expressed his ambition to elevate OAA to the next level.

With humble gratitude to the Oceania family, I look forward to making Athletics the number one sport in the area. I look forward to the next chapter of this sport, with support from World Athletics and the Oceania Family.

History continues to be rewritten in the Oceania Region, as three OAA Council Members are now on the World Athletics Council. Robin will join Geoff Gardner (Vice President of World Athletics) and Dame Valerie Adams from New Zealand (Deputy Chair of the World Athletics, Athletes’ Commission), strengthening the voice of our Area Association on the world stage.

After 13 years as Oceania President, Geoff thanked the Oceania Council and Member Federations for their constant support and wished Robin the best for his new position.

All Member Federations welcomed and congratulated Robin on his election.
