We witnessed another day of outstanding athletics competition for Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games at Carrara Stadium.
Nick Hough of Australia produced the race of his life to take the bronze medal in the Men’s 110m Hurdles in a Personal Best time of 13.38.
It was a roll of medals for Para Athletes with gold and silver quinella for Australia when Madison De Rozario and Angela Ballard crossed the line in the Women’s T54 1500m. Kurt Fearnley went out on his final track race on a high when he won the silver medal for Australia in the Men’s T54 1500m in a gutsy race. Jake Lappin was close behind to snare the bronze medal for Australia.
It was an Oceania treble in the Women’s Hammer Throw Final with Julia Ratcliffe taking the gold medal for New Zealand. Australia filled the other medal placings with Alexandra Hulley and Lara Nielsen respectively.
The Men’s Decathlon medals were decided after two tough days of competition and another medal to Australia with Cedric Dubler taking the bronze.
There were a number of Personal Bests and National Records set by Oceania Athletes. Henry Frayne of Australia set a new Games Record and Personal Best of 8.34 in his Long Jump qualifying round. Jonah Harris of Nauru set a new National Record in the Mens 200m of 21.96, along with Alex Beddoes of Cook Islands who set a new National Record in the Men’s 800m of 1.51.64. Personal Bests were also set by Brad Mathas (NZL) and Petero Veitaqomaki (FIJ) in the Men’s 800m, Kelvin Masoe (SAM) in the Men’s 200m and Anneliese Rubie (AUS) in the Women’s 400m
