Andrew Matthews appointed Competition Manager at Oceania Athletics Association

The Oceania Athletics Association (OAA) has appointed Andrew Matthews as Competition Manager, following a recent selection process.

Matthews joins OAA from Athletics New South Wales, where he served as General Manager Sport Delivery. In that role he led the transition of Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW competition structures into a single unified pathway and competition offering for athletes in NSW, the first time the two had been brought together in 56 years.

He brings more than 20+  years of experience in event and competition delivery across Australian sport. His previous roles include Competitions Manager at Athletics Australia, Athletics Manager for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and National Events Manager at BMX Australia.

At OAA, Matthews will oversee the delivery of the Association’s competition calendar and support member federations across the Oceania Area. He commences in the role Mid-August

“I’m excited to join an organisation I’ve long respected and worked closely with throughout my career,” Matthews said. “I look forward to contributing to the sport across the region, supporting our member federations and delivering Oceania’s suite of events to the high standard our athletes and members expect.”

Chair of the OAA Competition Commission and Council Member Trevor Spittle welcomed the appointment.

“On behalf of Council, it is a pleasure to welcome Andrew to the staff of OAA,” Spittle said. “Andrew is well known to many of our family for his work within our sport, and we know that his contribution will be invaluable. His knowledge will have great impact on our future, and I look forward to working closely with Andrew in my role as Chair of the OAA Competition Commission.”

The appointment comes as OAA continues to build capacity and support the growth of athletics competition throughout the Oceania Area.
