Team Solomon Islands Ready for Darwin

Team Solomon Islands heads to the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin led by World Athletics Championships representative and national mile record holder Stephen Rahuasi.

After a successful training block in Melbourne with the Fast 8 Track Club alongside athletes including Australian Olympian Peter Bol, Rahuasi arrives in strong form as he continues to close in on the Solomon Islands national records in both the 800m and 1500m.

Across the past two seasons, Rahuasi has steadily built experience against stronger international competition and will look to continue that progress in Darwin.

“I’m so proud to represent my country once more at the upcoming Oceania Championships,” Rahuasi said.

“I’m looking forward to performing at my best and trying to run personal bests as well.”

Distance runner Geejay Junior also returns to international competition after winning a medal in the 10,000m at the Pacific Mini Games. In Darwin, he will step down to the 5000m.

Pacific Games medallist Julian Sosimo will take on a busy program across three events as she continues to close in on the national javelin record.

The championships will also mark an important milestone for Solomon Islands athletics, with the nation set to field a mixed 4x100m relay team for the first time. The team will be aiming to establish a national record pending a clean run around the track.

With a growing group of athletes gaining international experience, Team Solomon Islands heads to Darwin looking to continue building on recent progress.
