Team Fiji Aims High at Oceania Athletics Championships 2026

Team Fiji heads to the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin with a large and confident squad, building off a strong run through the Coca-Cola Games and the 2025 Pacific Mini Games.

The team blends experienced international representatives with a rising wave of young athletes who have continued to impress across school and regional competition.

Leading the senior squad is veteran hurdler Errol Qaqa, a familiar face on the Oceania stage and often the loudest voice in the grandstand supporting Team Fiji. The national 60m hurdles record holder comes into Darwin after claiming gold at both the Pacific Mini Games and Oceania Cup in 2025, with his focus now shifting towards the Commonwealth Games pathway.

Heleina Young also returns to the Oceania Athletics Championships for the first time since 2019. After stepping away from athletics to represent Fiji in rugby sevens, Young made a powerful return to the track in 2025, claiming triple gold in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau.

Sprinter Braelynn Yee continues her strong season in the short sprints while balancing her studies as an Oceania Athletics, Griffith University and Oceania Australia Foundation scholarship holder.

“It gives me immense pride to be an ambassador for my country, Fiji,” Yee said.

“Every time I step onto the track, I’m representing my nation, culture and family. I’m competing for something bigger than myself and for what’s possible in the future.

“My goal is to do my utmost best in Darwin, keep believing in myself and always have perseverance.”

In the field events, Fiji women’s shot put record holder Maryann Macedru heads into Darwin after a dominant showing at the recent Coca-Cola Games.

The junior ranks arrive with plenty of momentum following standout performances during the school season. In the Under 20 division, Brieanna Rabakewa continued her rise with another personal best at the Coca-Cola Games and is closing in on the open national record.

Adi Ceva Lutumailagi will line up in the 400m after an impressive performance at the Coca-Cola Games, while Under 18 athlete Sera Nasilivata enters the championships as one of Fiji’s emerging names to watch. After a podium finish at the Polynesian Championships and a commanding win at the Coca-Cola Games, she has quickly caught the attention of athletics fans across Fiji.

With depth across all age groups and momentum carrying through the team, Fiji arrives in Darwin ready to make its mark on the Oceania stage.
