From 23rd to 28th of May Kiribati Athletics Association held a TOECS level 1 course. The course was held a Mary’s Motel and the track in Bairiki. There were 7 people participating in the very communicative course, with lots of discussions, input and questions. All of the participants, who have previously officiated in Kiribati, have passed and are now recognised technical officials. Newly accredited Technical Officials are encouraged to take on mentor roles for upcoming events and competitions such as the Kiribati Games in August. For this course the Lecturer of was OAA’s Yvonne Mullins, who together with the KAA President Peter Birati congratulated the Technical Officials to their great learning efforts and handed over certificates at the closing ceremony.

Last Saturday on the 28th of May 2017 summer Paralympian Rheed McCracken from Bundaberg, Queensland delivered outstanding performance. Whilst competing at the Switzerland Nationals on Saturday he broke the T34 100m sprint World Record. The 20-year-old  set a time of 14.92 seconds to win the race and officially become the fastest man in the world. His time beat the previous best of 14.95s by Tunisian athlete Walid Ktila, who also competed at the event. For more information click here

Only 27 more days until the start of the Oceania Area Championship in Suva. Federations have selected their teams and are ready to go.
