Team Nauru Ready for Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin
Team Nauru is set for the 2026 Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, with a group of senior athletes preparing to compete across both track and field.
Leading the team is Olympian and World Athletics Championships representative Winzar Kakiouea. After a strong 12 months that saw him break the national records in the 100m and 400m, and equal the 60m record, Kakiouea will line up in the 100m and 200m.
“I’m very excited to represent Nauru at the Oceania Championships. It means a lot to wear my country’s colours and compete on this stage,” Kakiouea said.
“With faith in God, my goal is to give my best performance, push my limits and do something special for Nauru. I also wish all my teammates the very best and hopefully we can all perform strongly and make our country proud.”
In the field, national discus record holder Jonothan Detageouwa will compete in the discus, while rising distance runner Isaac Oppenheimer takes on the 1500m after breaking the national record at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau.
Sprint and jumps talent Jonah Harris returns to competition as the national 200m record holder, lining up in the 100m and triple jump.
Wena Goboure, an international representative and national record holder in the long jump, will compete in the 100m, while Jaya Tebouwa enters the shot put.

Completing the women’s team is Under 16 athlete D-Lane Kepae, gaining valuable experience on the Oceania stage.
With a mix of experience and emerging talent, Team Nauru heads to Darwin looking to represent with pride across the championships.
