Kiribati Development Program is on it’s way

Kiribati Athletics Association has recently hired three new Sports Development Officers to assist with the Development Program. The Pacific Sports Partnership Program, funded by the Australian government, has enabled the Association to hire staff and carry out the program.

An agreement with the Ministry of Education has led to a close collaboration with 13 primary schools on South Tarawa. Every school is visited by a Development Officer regularly, where they will run Kids Athletics activities and introduce and instruct teachers to facilitate Kids Athletics activities on their own.

There are plans to host a Kid’s Athletics Championship on Tarawa.

The target group also reaches out to secondary schools where athletics activities are delivered and promoted by KAA staff.

KAA treasurer Kairao focuses on community groups and how to encourage women to get involved in the sport of Athletics.
