The annual 2017 Oceania Championships held at the ANZ National Stadium is coming up in 35 days so here are some tips & info for travelling to Fiji.
Entry Requirements
A valid passport for at least three months beyond the intended period of stay and a ticket for onward travel is required as well as sufficient funds. Visas are granted on arrival for a stay of four months for citizens of Commonwealth countries and nationals of Nauru, Tonga, United States, Samoa and some additional countries. Nationals of other countries require prearranged visas.
Arrival & Departure
Fiji welcomes visitors and to facilitate easy entry, everything has been done to make the process as pleasant as possible. A valid passport for at least three months beyond the intended period of stay and a ticket for return or onward travel is required.
Food and Drink
Mains water is normally heavily chlorinated, and whilst relatively safe may cause mild abdominal upsets. Bottled water is available and is advised for the first few weeks of the stay. Milk is pasteurized and dairy products are safe for consumption. Local meat, poultry, seafood, fruit and vegetables are generally considered safe to eat.
Currency
The Fijian dollar is the basic unit of currency, available in denominations of $2, $5, $10, $20, $50. Coins: 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c and $1. There is no limit to the amount of money to be brought in. Visitors are allowed to take out currency up to the amount imported.

Health and Medical
Fiji is free of major tropical diseases, including malaria. It has an effective, western-style medical system. Fresh water reticulated in Suva, Lautoka and the other major towns has been treated and is safe to drink. Hospitals are located in the major centers and there are health centers in rural areas. Hotels and resorts usually have a qualified nurse on the premises and a doctor on call. As in all travel it is recommended to take out a comprehensive health insurance.
Shopping/Business and shopping hours:
Handicraft, jewelry including traditional, souvenir, souvenir garments and other duty free items. Shopping hours are from 8.00a.m. – 7.00p.m. Sunday and public holiday trading is also permitted.
Transport available:
Bus services provide from 5.30am to 11pm. Taxi and carrier services are provided 24 hours service. Rental cars are available 24 hours, tour and boat transfers from main land to outer islands from hotel desks can also be arranged.
