The Federated States of Micronesia has named its team ahead of the 2026 Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, with athletes set to compete in the Open Age category

Distance runner Simeon Jacob leads the team following a standout 2025 season, where he rewrote the national record books across the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m at the Pacific Mini Games and Oceania Cup. Based in Chicago, Jacob has spent the past few months training through a tough winter and arrives in Darwin looking to lower his marks again.

Sprinter Stanislaus Kostka returns to the international stage after competing at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Now based in Australia on scholarship, Kostka has become a regular on the Queensland circuit as he builds towards the national records in the sprint events.

In the field, Kayna Kanemoto continues her rise after strong performances across 2024 and 2025, including medal-winning efforts at the Micronesian Games. Known as the “Wonder Woman from Chuuk”, Kanemoto will focus on the javelin in Darwin, where she has recently set a new national record during her college season.

Jacob said representing the Federated States of Micronesia remains a driving force behind his performances.

“After months of disciplined training through the Chicago winter, I’m ready to bring that strength to the start line alongside my fellow Pasifika distance runners,” he said.

“Representing the mighty nation of Federated States of Micronesia is the greatest honor of my life. I believe that courage is contagious; by stepping onto the world stage and giving my absolute best, I hope to ignite a fire in my people. My goal is to inspire every Micronesian to find the bravery within themselves to pursue their own dreams, no matter how far away they may seem.”

The 2026 Oceania Athletics Championships will provide another opportunity for Federated States of Micronesia athletes to compete on the regional stage and continue building momentum.
