Forty-Four Oceania Athletes are set to ignite the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships March 21-23
Nanjing – China. Three days of action-packed Athletics awaits as 44 Oceania Athletes take on the 472 Athletes from across the globe. Oceania has had a stunning summer of Athletics in the Southern Hemisphere with World Leading performances, National Records and Performances that are ready to take on the world.
On Track the 60m has seen numerous athletes break Oceania and National Records enroute to the start line, many utilising the regulation changes to Short Track and qualifying outdoors. Lachlan Kennedy (AUS) is the current men’s world leader at 6.43 and the one to chase in the event. Three Oceania athletes are currently in the top 10 positions on season’s bests with Josh Azzopardi, Oceania 100m Champion and New Zealand 100m Resident Record Holder Tiaan Whelpton, joining Kennedy. Pacific Island athletes have embraced the availability of 60m with performances that find athletes increasing standings on top lists or as new national record holders. Pais Wisil (PNG) qualifying for the World Athletics Indoor Championships via Quota Position with a season’s best of 6.64. In the Women’s event Torrie Lewis (AUS) stormed home across the World Indoor Tour Meetings setting an Australia Record of 7.14. Zoe Hobbs, the Oceania Record Holder sits just behind Lewis on season best performances (7.15) but will be one to watch, placing 4th place in the 2024 edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships
The field events welcomes the World Indoor High Jump Champions Hamish Kerr (NZL) and Nicola Olyslagers (AUS) to the 2025 Championships to retain their crown. Kerr securing his start position at the International Track Meeting, will be in action on Day 1 for Men’s High Jump Final. Olyslagers will be opening her 2025 on the world stage on Day 3 of the Competition. 2024 World Indoor Silver Medallist Tom Walsh returns to the circle in a hot field for the men’s Shot Put.
