OCEANIA ATHLETICS MASTERS CUP 2025
OCEANIA MASTERS CUP OCTOBER 29 - NOVEMBER 1 NUKU'ALOFA TONGA
Oceania Athletics is pleased to announce the Nuku’alofa, Tonga will be the host of the Major Oceania Athletics event in 2025. The competition will begin on October 29th and run until 1st November.
After being due to host the Oceania Polynesian Regional Championships before Covid hit, OAA are delighted to be bringing International Athletics back to the Kingdom of Tonga for the first time since 1998. Tonga has previously hosted the 1989 South Pacific Mini Games, and the 1998 Oceania U18 Athletics Championships at the newly resurfaced and renovated Teaufavia Stadium will once again host International Athletics.
Any athlete over the age of 30 is invited to compete in the Oceania Athletics Masters Cup, with 5-year age categories from 30, and the first three competitors in each age group will receive Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal respectively.
Athletes will need to represent an eligible Member Federation to be eligible for the Oceania Athletics Masters Cup Medals. Invitational athletes, and athletes outside of Oceania will be able to compete in the Masters Athletics events but will only be eligible for Invitational Medals.
The Oceania Athletics Masters Cup will be presented to the best performing male and female athlete according to the age graded tables in the following categories.
Sprints / Hurdles 60, 100, 200, 400, Short Hurdles, Long Hurdles
Distance / Walks 800, 1500, 3000/5000, 3000/5000 Racewalk, Steeplechase, Cross Country
Throws Hammer, Shot, Javelin, Discus, Weight
Jumps and Multi Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Pentathlon
Final Entries will close for international entries 1 month prior to the competition, with local entries taken to 1 week prior to the competition. Masters’ athletes will be required to enter individually online via the OAA website and Entry Platform.
The Oceania Athletics Masters Cup is not only an opportunity for the athletes, but the coaches and the technical officials to step up to the next level of competition. Oceania Athletics looks forward to building on this rich tradition which is fast approaching the Centenary edition of Secondary School Athletics in Tonga.

With only the best athletes being selected in each region, the exciting format will thrill fans in Tonga over the two days of Competition. With The Oceania Athletics Masters Cup held alongside the Oceania Cup, this will be an opportunity for athletes of all ages, to get a taste of the wonderful hospitality that Tonga will provide. With Tonga was due to host the Polynesian Championships before Covid struck, so OAA is extremely excited to head to the Kingdom in 2025.
EVENTS
60,100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000/5000, Short Hurdles, Long Hurdles, Steeplechase*, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Discus, Hammer, Javelin, Shot, Weight, 3000m/5000m Walk, Throws Pentathlon, Pentathlon, 4×100 Relay, Mixed 4x400m Relay, Sprint Medley Relay, Cross Country
Steeplechase will be confirmed in early 2025 on inspection of venue at test event.
Cross Country will only be conducted if there is significant interest. This will be finalised 3 months prior to the competition.
The Throws Pentathlon will be conducted with the individual throwing event. The first three throws will count towards an athlete throws pentathlon score. If an athlete is only competing in the throw’s pentathlon, they will only receive 3 throws. If competing in the individual throw’s events, they will receive 3 throws, and a further 3 if in the top 8 throwers.
The 3000/5000 will be run concurrenly. Athletes will only be able to do one.

DAYS
Competition will run from Wednesday 29th October until Saturday 1st November.
At this stage, the days are scheduled to go at the following times.
Wednesday 10:30am to 12:30pm / 2:00pm to 6:00pm
Thursday 1:00pm to 6:00pm
Friday 1:00pm to 6:00pm
Saturday 10:00am to 2:00pm
These times are approximate and will be confirmed on the close of entries.
Draft Timetable is available and subject to change. Final Timetable will be available on close of entries.
FLIGHTS
Tonga is accessible via direct flights from Australia, New Zealand, and other Pacific islands. Fua’amotu International Airport on Tongatapu serves as the main gateway.
ACCOM
There is a lot of accommodation in Nuku’alofa. Most accommodation is bed and breakfast, or home stay style.
