Coaching Pathway

  • Oceania Basic Athletics Scheme (OBAS)

The objective of OBAS is to give an outline of the rules, conduct and teaching of core athletics events to parents, volunteer coaches and officials who have little background in athletics. It is intended that the vast majority of the course is presented in a practical setting.

OBAS is conducted and presented by Oceania Pacific Island Member Federations that have a certified coach in country.

For further information or if you wish to attend an OBAS course, please contact your Member Federation or anthony@oceaniaathletics.com.

  • Kids’ Athletics eLearning Course

The Kids’ Athletics Coach and Teacher training programme offers a blended learning approach to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective Kids’ Athletics practitioners.

This comprehensive programme combines a Kids’ Athletics eLearning course with a practical workshop, providing a well-rounded training experience. Through the eLearning course, participants gain a solid theoretical foundation, while the practical workshop allows for hands-on application of the learned concepts.

  • Coaches’ Education and Certification System (CECS)

Level 1

The Level I will able you to confidently train teens providing the “bridge” from World Athletics Kids’ Athletics to ‘real’ athletics. The syllabus covers all key theory areas and all event groups emphasising on the practical skills of coaching. At the end of the course, you will be able to competently progress kids into teens’ athletics training and competition (13-15 years of age).

Level 2

The Level II course is designed to be an introduction to performance coaching for coaches who have performed well at Level I and have gained a level of coaching specialisation in one of the following five event groups:

i) Throws

ii) Sprints and Hurdles

iii) Jumps

iv) Middle and Long Distance

v) Combined Events

With this specialisation coaches can begin to meet their Member Federation’s need for high level coaches. In addition to elements specific to the events group, the Level II syllabus contains core elements which are common to all events. On completion of a Level II course, a coach will be expected to be able to identify and coach the basic competition model for each event within an event group. The coach will also be expected to be able to plan and implement a series of appropriate micro-cycles and their respective training sessions within the context of an annual training plan.
