Athletics PNG hosts week-long World Athletics Coaches Education Certification System (CECS) Level 1

Papua New Guinea Athletics and PNG National Sports Institute hosts weeklong World Athletics Coaches Education Certification Systems, Level 1. For the first time since 2001. 27 participants were selected for either for their experience in coaching or participation in the recent OBAS course or coaching conference.
The week-long course held at PNG National Sports Institute was facilitated by Brett Green, PNG Head Coach, with Philip Kamane as co-facilitator
Participants in the course included athletes who look to give back to the sport athletics Benjamin Aliel, Rellie Kaputin, and Karo Igo including former champions in Wala Gime, Sapolai Yao, Angela Way, Debbie Kaore, Nelson Stone and Subul Babo..
The coaches will now return to their local associations and share their experiences and learnings to elevating the standard of coaching and trainings throughout the country.









Lead Facilitator Brett Green said:
“This level 1 course is a starting point for many of these coaches. Having this many coaches interested in our sport bodes well for the future of the sport of athletics in PNG. The enthusiasm displayed by this group of coaches shows the need for these courses to be run in our pacific nations to encourage more athletes to explore our sport and continue the development of essential sporting skills.”
“The National Sports Institute through it’s director Janet Gimots is a big supporter of athletics in PNG and also runs an athlete development program for youth athletes.”
As is widely practised in PNG, participants presented gifts as a token of appreciation to the Lead Facilitator Brett Green.
