Team Micronesia Ready to Take on the Oceania Cup in Tonga

Team Micronesia will arrive in Nuku‘alofa, Tonga, with a dynamic and diverse squad for the Oceania Cup, bringing together Olympians, Pacific Mini Games champions, and national record holders from across the Northern Pacific. The team-based competition will test the region’s best athletes as they compete for points across track and field against Melanesia, Polynesia, Tonga, Australia, New Zealand, Regional Australia, and Hawaii.

Tania Tan (Northern Mariana Islands) brings both endurance and pedigree to the team. A double gold medallist at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, Tan holds national records ranging from the 1500m indoors to the half marathon.

Fastest man in Micronesia Winzar Kakiouea OLY (Nauru) will pull on the light blue of Team Micronesia. Winzar recently returned from the World Athletics Championships, and is in form after breaking his National Record at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau.

Meanwhile, William Reed OLY (Marshall Islands) adds depth across the board, with multiple national and U20 records to his name. Also an Olympian, Reed’s versatility across the track and field events makes him an invaluable asset to Team Micronesia.

Stepping onto the start line Kenaz Kaniwete OLY (Kiribati), one of the brightest young talents in Pacific athletics. Kaniwete holds the national records in the 100m and 400m across the open, U20, and U18 division all set at the Pacific Mini Games in July alongside the Kiribati 4x100m, and 4x400m records.

Olympic experience runs deep within the squad. Alongside Reed and Kaniwete, Sydney Francisco OLY (Palau) 2024 Olympian is ready to deliver at the Oceania Cup, she will lace up the spikes in the track and jumps events in Tonga.

Micronesia’s strength also lies in its breadth of representation featuring numerous National Record Holders, with athletes from Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Nauru rounding out the squad. Wena Gobure (NRU), Hazel Wilson (GUM), Gwenizah-Yvonne Bracinas (GUM), Genie Gerado (GUM), Maria Maelaine Igito Quitugua (NMI), Rynier Di Ramos (GUM), Simeon Jacob (FSM), Simong Tang (NMI), Alex Ju (GUM), Jonathon Detageouwa (NRU), and Bouncer Quadina (NRU) ensure every corner Micronesia is represented

The team will be managed by Carri Ann Cabral (Guam) and Joseph Dabana (Nauru), bringing experience as both former athletes, coaches and managers to lead Team Micronesia at the Oceania Cup in Tonga.

The Oceania Cup runs from 29th October to November 1st at Teufaiva Stadium, Nuku’alofa Tonga.
