On the penultimate day of the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) General Assembly in Fiji, Oceania Athletics Association, Executive Director Yvonne Mullins wins the ONOC Equity Commission (ECO) inaugural “Active Champions for Equity” (ACE) Award.
The Active Champions for Equity award aims to spotlight those who have exhibited exemplary leadership, innovative projects, or contributed to the development of a sport or event that highlights the involvement of women.
“I am humbled and proud to achieve the inaugural ACE award on behalf of all of my colleagues I have had the opportunity to partner with over the past two decades. The ONOC Equity Commission has done a mountain of work to break down barriers in challenges surrounding equity in the Pacific.” Said Yvonne upon receiving the ACE Award.
“I congratulate them for the results they have achieved, and I look forward to continuing to champion equity issues across Oceania into the future.”
A former athlete, now technical official, coach and sports administrator, Yvonne leads athletics in the Pacific as Executive Director of Oceania Athletics Association. Since stepping into the role in 2005, Yvonne has been pivotal to the advancement of women’s involvement in Oceania and for women in the sport of athletics.
The ACE Award Selection Criteria required nominees to have experience in technical official work, coaching, sport administration, and advance gender equality and women’s rights. The ONOC General Assembly concludes tomorrow, after 8 days (20-27 March) of panels, conferences, debates, workshops and discussions as Oceania NOCs and Sport Organisations work towards Brisbane 2032.
