Oceania Athletics Association Life Membership is the highest award to receive in the Area. The 2025 OAA Congress voted Trevor Spittle of New Zealand to receive this honour.
Trevor’s roles within Officiating, Leadership, Governance, Infrastructure & Community Development, have seen Trevor become a pillar of the Oceania Athletics family for over 40 years.
Trevor joined the OAA Council in 2007 and has since remained on the council providing valuable insight. Audit, Finance & Risk Committee In 2023 Trevor joined as treasurer to the Audit, Finance & Risk Committee. His contributions to the OAA Council saw a 11 year tenor as Vice – President. Trevor led Athletics New Zealand as President from 2001-2002
Trevor has been invaluable to the Oceania Region, however his impact globally can not be understated. A technical official with both World Athletics and World Para Athletics, Trevor has Officiated at major global events, including:
- Three Commonwealth Games
- Five World Athletics Championships
- Two Paralympic Games
- Tokyo Olympics
- Six World Para Athletics Championships
Membership on World Athletics Competition Commission has seen Trevor as the sole representative from Oceania from 2016-2023. Development of Officials in New Zealand and Oceania has been a large part of Trevor’s Athletics career.
- Led officials’ development from grassroots to international levels
- World Athletics TOECS Level 2 Lecturer (since 2018)
- Key contributor to NZ Officials Association, ensuring education, wellbeing & succession planning
When tragedy struck Christchurch and surrounds during the 2011 Earthquake, Trevor was integral in the rebuilding of athletics facilities. He was also a Panel expert in Nga Puna Wai athletics track development.
Trevor Spittle’s vision, leadership & service have profoundly shaped New Zealand & Oceania athletics, making him truly worthy of OAA Life Membership.
