Oceania Athletes finish off the World Athletics Indoor Championships with 5 medals, 2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze and a new Oceania Record on Day 3 of Championships.
Tom Walsh, New Zealand’s only competitor on Day 3, saved the best till last. Opening his event with a throw of 21.65, enough to secure the Gold. Tom’s performance his 6th consecutive medal at a World Indoor Championship, surpassing Valerie Adams who had 5 in row, and 3rd Gold in this time.
Australia continued the gold medal action in the field with Nicola Olyslagers flying over 1.97m to retain her World Indoors Crown. Olyslagers, becomes the first Australian to retain a World Indoor title. Soaring to the Silver Medal, Eleanor Patterson also clearing 1.97, however on countback, Olyslagers took the win.
Continuing with the Jumps success Liam Adcock secured Bronze in a tight Men’s Long Jump Final. Opening his account with 8.28m his first-round jump enough to secure the podium placing. All three podium places were between 8.30m and 8.28m in close contest on the runway.
On track Georgia Griffith crossed the line in 4th, in a new Oceania Short Track record of 4:00.80.
In the final event of the Championships Australia’s 4x400m team of Ellie Beer, Ella Connolly, Bella Pasquali, and Jemma Pollard, ran home for Bronze in 3:32.65 behind the USA and Poland. Using their strength outdoors, the team navigated the extra turns to take home Australia’s first medal in the event since 1999.
The final medal standings see Australia in 6th with the second highest number of total Medals behind the USA.
9 Medals, 1 Area Record, 3 National Records and memories to last a lifetime round out a successful World Indoor Championships.
The next edition of the World Indoor Championships will be in Poland 2026.
