Oceania Athletics Association congratulates 7 Oceania Technical officials newly appointed World Athletics Race Walking Judge Silver and Bronze Status.

Completing the World Athletics Race walking Evaluation in October, 5 of our Oceania Technical officials have obtained the Silver level status and 2 Bronze level status.

Silver

  • Fiona Free (New Zealand)
  • Blake Steele (Australia)
  • Scott Nelson (Australia)
  • Craig Brown (New Zealand)
  • David Sim (New Zealand)

Bronze

  • Jodie Sundstrom (Australia)
  • Rodney Clarke (Australia)

The virtual evaluation comprises of three elements of assessment, video, written, and oral, providing new opportunities to engage with technology within officiating.

In the lead up to the assessment the candidates had extensive training including  a session with Zoë Eastwood-Bryson (Australia)  and Kirsten Crocker (Australia) both of whom hold World Athletics Race Walking Judge Gold Status. Zoë recently returns from the World Athletics Championships in Budapest being the first female Chief race walking judge at a World Championship Event.

Scott Nelson (Australia) spoke of both the training and evaluation experience, “I really enjoyed the training and the exam experience. To complete all of the online tasks from home via the ‘testwe’ app was certainly different, but great use of technology to allow the assessment. I feel supported by the group and my results to continue judging at any level with confidence.”

New Zealand’s David Sim “I am very pleased and proud to be added to the Judging panel following the World Athletics evaluation in October”

Bolstering our existing group of Bronze, Silver and Gold Race Walk Judges, these 7 officials will be a great asset to helping Oceania Member Federations continue to host Race-Walking Competitions that hold valuable ranking points for our athletes.
