Empowering Athletics Leaders in Solomon Islands – Included Through Sport Program

The Included Through Sport program in the Solomon Islands is a collaborative effort between Sport Inclusion Australia and Team Up, with support from the Oceania Athletics Association and Athletics Solomon Islands.

This initiative is to use athletics to provide opportunities for Solomon Islanders living with disabilities, both visible and non-visible. OAA Development Manager, Regan Kama, travelled to Solomon Islands to conduct the Gender Leadership and Wellbeing Program to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to empower them to apply and take on leadership roles within the Solomon Islands community.

The program promoted the health and social benefits of inclusive sports participation, create a safe and supportive environment for athletes with disabilities, while enhancing their physical and mental wellbeing.

OAA Development Manager, Regan Kama : “The partnership with Sport Inclusion Australia has significantly broadened the Solomon Islands Athletics community’s perspective on inclusion opportunities and understanding. The recent OAA Gender Leadership workshop invited representatives from all sports to build on their inclusion learnings and become leaders within their communities. OAA is excited to see both men and women from diverse backgrounds making a positive impact in Athletics in the Solomon Islands.”
