Athletics Samoa National Championships

Athletics Samoa National Championships were held at Apia Park in December.

Commonwealth Games and Pacific Mini Games representative William Hunt won the Men’s 100m title in a time of 10.45. Tuna Solomona and Taitaifono Samasoni round out the minor medals. Tuna, backing up to run 10.75 in the u20 100m.

U18 Janiva Faafia took line honours in the Open 100m in 12:57, doing the double to win the u18 100m. Sierra Keil and Maria in second and third respectively in the Open 100m.

Samoa’s Triathletes, focused their attention onto one discipline. Their running talents shone through with Tyreece Collins winning the Open 5000m. Fellow triathlete Manamea Schwalger first across the line in the Women’s 5000m.

Samoa’s history in the field events is undeniable. New Zealand based thrower CJ Skelton a dominate force in the u20 Shot Put and Discus taking out the double. 100m Winner William Hunt displaying his versatility winning the Open Javelin.

Pacific Games representative Jack Schmidt Joseph won the U20 High Jump clearing 1.85m

The Samoan Championships had international visitors from Fiji’s Laucala Bay Club. The group producing standout performances across the championships including Errol Qaqa doing the Hurdles double in the Men’s Open Events.

Samoa’s youngest athletes got an opportunity to experience a national championship with Kid’s activities for the u10 and some shorter events on offer for the younger age groups

In addition to the action on the track. Athletics Samoa hosted workshops on Safeguarding and Antidoping. Enhancing knowledge base within Samoa.
