Highlights from the Vanuatu National Athletics Championships
The Vanuatu National Athletics Championships wrapped up a strong three days of competition over the Easter long weekend, with Korman Stadium in Port Vila filled with athletes, families and supporters across every session.
From the first events through to the final races, the championships carried a steady energy, with athletes stepping up across all disciplines. In the men’s 100 metres, Rizon Rara set the tone with a hand timed 10.60, edging ahead of Toho Joshua who followed closely in 10.68. The result reflected a growing depth in Vanuatu’s sprint ranks and set up one of the standout moments of the weekend.
Across the programme, performances held firm and the meet ran smoothly, with athletes given the chance to compete, connect and build form in front of a home crowd.
The opening two days placed a strong focus on the next generation. Junior athletes took to the track alongside a series of Kid’s Athletics activities, creating space for young athletes to experience competition and be part of the championships environment at Korman Stadium.

With the championships now complete, attention shifts to what comes next. A mini competition and Kid’s Athletics Day on 7 May will continue to build that momentum, keeping athletes engaged and connected to the sport.
Vanuatu’s international representatives will soon take that form abroad, with a group set to compete at the Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney from 9 April.
