Stanislaus Kostka will proudly represent the Federated States of Micronesia in the 100m at the World Athletics Championships,
Kostka’s love for sprinting began with family influence, especially his father who was also a sprinter. “The person who truly inspired me to start competing in track and field is my dad. I could also say that my whole family inspires me because they’ve always supported me from the start. What continues to inspire me are the young athletes around me. I hope that one day, I can be an inspiration for them.”
This year has already shown his progress, with Kostka hitting personal best form in the 60m, 200m, and 100m. He believes his training has been the key, guided by his three coaches back home — William Kostka, Travis Venema, and Pena Seruvakula and supported by teammates. He has also benefitted from a training camp in Fukuoka. “I have learned so much from Coach Andrea, Coach David, and my fellow Pacific athletes here. I would like to thank the whole team in Fukuoka the coaches, our physio team, government representatives, the chef, and everyone who has helped our Pacific group.”
Balancing work and training has been his biggest challenge, but he remains determined. His goals are clear: to run a personal best and, hopefully, set a new national record. “I believe there is always room for improvement and I will continue to aim for my goals.”
Kostka is excited to test himself against the world’s best and to watch some of his favorites, including Oblique Seville, Kenny Bednarek, and Oceania’s fastest woman Zoe Hobbs. Off the track, he reveals something few may know — he also serves as a Diplomat for his country FSM.
For the next generation of Pacific athletes, his advice is heartfelt: “Never give up on your goals no matter how hard it seems. Keep working and keep believing.”
