Day 2 Preview – Pacific Mini Games Athletics, Palau

After a strong opening day that saw records fall and rivalries ignite, Day 2 promises another exciting lineup at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau. With medals on the line across the track, field, and para events, athletes from across the region are set to take centre stage.

Key Events to Watch

Men’s Octathlon – Final Day
Fiji’s Waisele Inoke leads the competition heading into Day 2 of the men’s octathlon. With several strong events remaining, Inoke will aim to hold his form and finish on top.

Women’s 10,000m
Fiji’s Reki Roberts, currently leading the heptathlon standings after 4 events. Day 2 features Reki’s stronger events to continue her lead

Ambulant Shot Put (Men’s)
All eyes will be on Paralympians Soane Meissonnier of Wallis and Futuna and Ken Kahu of Vanuatu. Athletes of all different classifications will take to the circle with in a close competition.

400m Heats (Men’s and Women’s)
PNG’s Adolf Kauba and Daniel Baul bring the experience and speed, also part of PNG’s wining quartet in the 4x400m. Fiji’s Helena Young, a former rugby player, makes her return to the track after helping 4x400m with Tema Fiji

100m Semifinals and Finals (Men’s and Women’s)
The sprint finals are set to be a highlight of the Games.
In the men’s field, Tovetuna Tuna and Pais Wisil (both PNG) will go head-to-head with Fiji’s Waisake Tewa rounding out the top 3 qualifiers
In the women’s final, PNG’s Isila Apkup, Australia’s Kayedel Smith, and Fiji’s Sera Nailvata cross the line first in the Women’s heats.

Women’s Ambulant Javelin
Regina Edward of PNG reigning Pacific Games Champion returns to the runway

Men’s Shot Put
Wallis and Futuna’s Stephen Malaga enters as a favourite, but keep an eye on Nauru’s Jonathan Detageouwa, who looks to improve his National Record.

Men’s 800m
Solomon Islands’ Stephen Rahuasi is closing in on his national record and will face stiff competition from PNG’s Adolf Kauba. The 800m Short Track Record Holder, has a busy afternoon with the 400m heats earlier

100m Wheelchair Final
Christian Chee Aye of French Polynesia is ready to roll. The Pacific Games Bronze Medal
