World Athletics Continental Tour – Oceania Meets
The 2026 World Athletics Continental Tour returns to Oceania early next year, bringing together the Area’s top athletes, and international visitors for a series of high-intensity, one-day meetings across New Zealand and Australia. The tour has become a key part of the international season and will once again play a major role in shaping athlete preparation, qualification, and rankings ahead of a packed competition calendar in 2026.
The 2025 tour meetings produced strong performances and high fan engagement across the Oceania Area, culminating at a sell-out Maurie Plant Meet at Lakeside Stadium. Fans packed Lakeside Stadium to witness world-class athletics, and head-to-head battles across the program. A perfect way to begin the global tour of World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Meetings. The momentum from 2025 sets the stage for an even bigger year, with athletes already eyeing valuable World Athletics Ranking points and qualification opportunities for several major events in 2026, including the Oceania Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games, and World U20 Championships.
The 2026 Oceania leg of the World Athletics Continental Tour will open in New Zealand at the Allan and Sylvia Potts Classic, a staple in the Athletics New Zealand Summer Circuit. This year’s edition holds special significance as New Zealand prepares to host its first ever Short Track Championships, creating a unique platform for New Zealand’s athletes to position themselves ahead of the 2026 World Indoor Championships in Poland.
Within New Zealand Whanganui, Auckland and Christchurch will host Bronze Label One Day Meetings. In 2025 Tom Walsh World Indoor Shot Put Champion and, Hamish Kerr World and Olympic Champion High Jumper were in action on the field and Oceania’s fastest woman Zoe Hobbs take to the track. The tour will travel across the Tasman into Australia for a series of Bronze labelled events in Perth and Adelaide, the final Bronze Meet destination will be revealed soon after the Sydney venue has faced delays to the track resurfacing. The Australian Meets in 2025 hosted, The Record breaking Australian 4x100m Men’s team in Sydney, 800m showdowns in Adelaide and saw Liam Adcock fly over 8.30 on his way to take Bronze at the World Indoor Championships. The tour will once again conclude at the Maurie Plant Meet, Oceania’s gold-label Continental Tour event. Known for attracting world-leading athletes and sell-out crowds a perfect ending to an exciting 3 months of Athletics in Oceania.
