RECORD-SHATTERING JULY FOR OCEANIA ATHLETES
Oceania Athletics has seen a record breaking month of athlete performances in the month of July, with a total of 4 Oceania (Area) Records and 33 Senior National Records falling across the track, field and road.
A significant number of the records were broken during the Pacific Mini Games, where athletes from across the Pacific Islands rose to the occasion, showcasing talent, regional development, and country pride.
Kiribati’s Kenaz Kaniwete lead the record-breaking spree with 5 National Records during the Pacific Mini Games 100, 400, 4x100m x2, and 4x400m. The youngster also broke the U18, and U20 National 100m, and 400m during the Games. Federated States of Micronesia’s Simeon Jacob did the hattrick breaking the 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m records. 12 Member Federations saw record breaking performances throughout the Games.
Leading the charge at the Area level was Jessica Hull (Australia), who stormed to two new Oceania Records and Australian Records in the mile and 1000m on the Diamond League Circuit.
Rose Davies (Australia) continued her rise with an Area and National Record in the 5000m, and Peter Bol (Australia) showed his class again in the 800m, breaking his own Area and National Record.
From distance to sprints, jumps to relays, Pacific athletes delivered across the board at the Pacific Mini Games:
