The Oceania Athletics Championships, which is the pinnacle event within the Oceania Area for Athletics, will see the best athletes head to Mackay from the 7th until 11th of June.
The Championships will take a new and exciting format and will be the first Area Championships to be inclusive of all age groups and abilities. The Senior, U20 and U18 Championships will take place in their traditional format, with the Area Championships in 2022 an important steppingstone for athletes wanting to compete at World Championships, both in Eugene (Senior) and Cali (Under 20) later in the year.
The U16 competition, will take the format of Teams Competition, with teams able to enter through, Clubs or Schools, Regions, States or Member Federations. An introduction of a full range of master’s events to be contested, will be a first for Oceania Athletics and the Oceania Masters Athletics Association.
Oceania Para Athletics Championships Championships. In world first for International Athletics Competitions, Para Athletes will compete for Oceania Championships Medals at the same time at the same venue.
Entry for the Senior, under 20, and Under 18 Championships events are through each athletes Member Federation. Each of Oceania Athletics 20 MF are allowed to enter up 3 athletes per event.
The Masters and Para events are open to any athlete who qualifies via age or classification to enter their relevant events.
The Under 16 Teams Challenge is a team’s competition. Athletes need to be apart of a team to enter.
For Senior events, Athletes will need to be 16 years (born in 2006 or before) and above to be entered in Senior events except for the throwing events, combined events and 10,000m where athletes will need to be 18 years and older (Born in 2004 or before).
For Under 20 events, athletes will need to be born in 2003, 2004, 2005 or 2006.
For Under 18 Events, athletes must be 15 years or older and be born in 2005 or 2006, 2007.
For Para events, will need to be 16 years (born in 2006 or before) and above to be entered in Senior events except for the throwing events, where athletes will need to be 18 years and older (Born in 2004 or before).
For Masters events, athletes will need to be 30 years on the day the competition starts (9th of June).
For Under 16 Teams Challenge, athletes need to be 14 or 15 years old so born in 2007 or 2008.
Masters Pole Vault
Pole Vault is included for Masters Athletes. Athletes must bring their own Pole or make arrangements with a local club to hire a pole (at their own expense)—more details to come.
There is no minimum number of athletes for a team, however teams are mixed gender, so teams will need atleast 1 male and 1 female in each event.
Athletes can only do a maximum of 4 events.
Athletes will need to be apart of team. If you don’t have a team, and still want to be apart of the competition, Athletics North Queensland are putting together teams, and you can register your interest here
For the Senior, under 20 and Under 18 Championships, athletes will need to be entered by the Member Federation. MF can enter up to 3 athletes, who have met the qualifying standards.
Yes, there are entry standards. For Senior, Under 20 and Under 18 Championships, athletes will need to have met the entry standard to be entered (see below).
For Para, Masters and Under 16 Competitions, there are no entry standards.
Member Federations may set their own entry standards to be selected in their team.
