Down Syndrome World Championships
Last week Portugal hosted the Sports Union for Athletes with Down Syndrome (SU-DS) World Championships in Athletics from 14th – 16th October 2017.
For the first time Australia took part in the event sending Brisbane Athlete Andre Rivett, who competed in the Javelin, Shot Put and Discus. Andre finished 2nd in the Shot Put and Discus and 5th in the Javelin coming close to his Personal Bests in all disciplines. Coming home with two Silver Medals at World Championships the 20-year-old thrower is celebrating a great success.
Marathon in Venice
Italian Marathon runner Eyob Faniel won the Venice Marathon on Sunday after an incident in which the leading six runners took a wrong turn. Favorites such as Abdulahl Dawud, Gilbert Kipleting Chumba, Kipkemei Mutai and David Kiprono Metto were among the leading group which followed a motorcycle off the course, covering several hundred metres before being made aware of their error and turning back, due to this error they lost about 2 minutes
Breaking world records at 90
New South Wales racewalker Heather Lee has set a world record and won gold in the women’s 3000m walk for the 90+ age group clocking 24:56.97 in Penguin at the 16th Australian Masters Games staged in Tasmania’s.
