Run24-1 โ€“ a series of 24 one-mile runs contested around the world on 2 June celebrating the spirit of Global Running Day.

Fiji had the honour of starting the event, which included Four of Fijiโ€™s national athletes alongside 50 children and adults in Suva.

Triple and long jumper, Eugene Vollmer said: โ€œThis is the first time Fiji has celebrated Global Running Day and hopefully in the years to come, the awareness will grow throughout our tiny Rugby loving island nation. The run was good, I enjoyed it. Just to come out and do something different. No need to be competitive, just take part and it will hopefully inspire other people to take up running as a way of life.โ€

From the roads of Fiji to the tracks of Australia, Run24-1 then headed onto Melbourne, Australia. On a chilly morning, Melbourne University hosted Australiaโ€™s Run 24-1 with runners from age 7 to 70. The mile took the early morning runners around the track, past the swimming pool, around the football ovals, past the colleges and then around the tennis courts with a final lap of the track.

Melbourne University Athletics Club runner Nick Parkinson said: โ€œWe just did our 1 mile for the global IAAF Run 24-1. Itโ€™s nice for us to get out and have a 9am run on a Sunday to beat the cold with a bit of fun and a run.โ€
