Oceania Walks Championships 2019

The Oceania Walks Championships where once again held in Adelaide, Australia. Strong fields in all division

The Open Womens 20km race quickly became a race in three. With race favourite, Sandra Lorenas (Columbia) , and two Australian’s Katie Hayward and Jemima Montag who walked together through 16km. It was then, that Lorenas was able to pull away from the Australian’s, with Hayward, who is still in the Under 20 age group, able to walk away with the Oceania title, from Montag and local Adelaide product Claire Tallent.

In the Men’s it was Australian Dane Bird-Smith who took the race out fast, and with no one going, he was on his own for most of the race. It wasnt until 2 laps to go (4km) that he got caught by Perseau Karlstrom from Sweeden, who would take line honours. Bird Smith would finish second, with Rhydian Cowley (Australia) and Quentin Rew (New Zealand) rounding out the medals in the Oceania Championships.
