The Oceania Championships for the 10km Road and Marathon took place on the Gold Coast, on the 1st and 2nd of July 2017.

The races were held alongside the Gold Coast Marathon Festival. The races held in beautiful conditions, with still conditions greeting the runners.

The Men’s and Women’s marathon where highlighted by a brilliant performance by Virginia Moloney. The Australian ran a time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 14 seconds, to win by over 5 minutes from her nearest competitor.

The Men’s marathon, was a much tighter affair with Dave Ridley from New Zealand, breaking away over the final kilometers to win from Australian Charlie Boyle by 24 seconds.

The Men’s 10km road race was close race with Timothy Lefroy from Australia taking line honours in a time of 29 minutes and 48 seconds. Winning by 1 second from Matthew Hudson. Local youngster Louis Mcafee rounded out the podium in a time of 29 minutes 50 seconds.

The Women’s 10km was won in commanding fashion by Eloise Wellings. It was her last race in Australia before heading to Europe to prepare for the World Championships in London, where she will compete over 10,000m.

We now head to Port Vila, Vanuatu at the end of the year, for the Oceania Half Marathon Championships, to be held alongside the Pacific Mini Games.
