2017 Australian Athletics Championships

Last weekend was the 2017 Australian Athletics Championships and what a week it was for track and field in Australia. Putting the nation’s best able-bodied and para-athletes of all ages against each other. Over the course of the week many records were broken including national and world records, plenty qualifiers for the World Para-Athletics Championships and IAAF World Championships

Over the length of the week there were many great highlights. One of them the return of Sally Pearson to the 100m hurdles. Pearson beat the IAAF World Championships qualifying time of 12.75s wining the finals with a time of 12.62s.

WA athlete Sasha Zhoya takes home five gold medals in the U16 pole vault, U17 pole vault with a jump of 4.92m, U16 long jump, U16 200m and U17 110m hurdles. For more info click here

Toea Wisil wins Gold20170401_211202

Another highlight PNG’s Toea Wisil finished the competition with two gold medals around her neck. Toea ran a time of 11.42 seconds to win the 100m leaving her fellow competitors behind. Next up was her 200m in which she ran a time of 23.76 seconds (-2.4) and suprisingly finished 1st. For Toea this proved the work she has been doing on the training track is really paying off. 2016 Athletics Australia Awards

The 2016 Athletics Australia Awards have been announced as part of the Festival of Athletics at the Sydney Olympic Park when athletes, coaches and officials all celebrated their achievements in 2016.
The Athletics Australia Awards are decided by an independent panel after nominees were chosen by the Special Awards Committee and member associations.

Munro Leys Suva Challenge

Last weekend on 1st April the lead up event to the Suva Marathon was held: Munro Leys Suva Challenge. The event was organised by the Suva Marathon Club where over 350 runners took part in the run. The winner Avikash Lal won the men’s half marathon event at Ratu Cakobau Road in Suva on Saturday. The 21-year old athlete from Nadi finished with a time of 1hr 22m 20s while Kennol Narayan came second with 1.22.40. For more information click here

NZ 2017 World Mountain Running Championships

Athletics NZ has announced the athletes selected to compete at the 2017 World Mountain Running Championships in Premana, Italy 30 July.

Shop’n’Save Fiji National Championships

Coming up on the 8th of April is Fiji’s Shop’n’Save National Championship in Suva at ANZ Stadium. The event will feature ages from under 8 to Open. For more information visit the Athletics Fiji Facebook page.
