During this truly unprecedented situation, we firstly want to express our sincere best wishes and thoughts to everyone in our region. The health, safety and wellbeing of our athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and staff has always been our number one priority. Oceania Athletics Association take this opportunity to provide an update on our response to the current COVID-19 situation. As this situation is changing rapidly, we will endeavour to update as often as possible.
 
As you are aware there are currently travel restrictions throughout the world because of COVID-19. The spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has created much uncertainty, which has been concerning for all of us. We are carefully monitoring and will keep you updated on the directions and advice of World Athletics, Government Departments throughout the Pacific and the World Health Organization (WHO) along with other relevant authorities.
As of today, 18th March 2020, all OAA competitions and endorsed activities have been cancelled or postponed until further notice.
 
OAA Council Meeting
After speaking with President Robin Eugenio last night we wish to advise that the face-to-face OAA Council Meeting to be conducted in Tonga is postponed until further notice. The OAA Council will meet via tele-conference over the coming week.
Polynesian Championships – 14/15 May
The Polynesian Championships have been postponed from the original date. We are currently seeking the advice of the Member Federations in the Polynesian Member Federations as to suitable alternative dates.
Oceania Combined Events Championships – 6/7 June
At the present time the Combined Events Championships are still scheduled for the 6/7 June in Townsville. If a change of date is necessary we are considering the 26/27 September in Townsville.
Micronesian Championships – 13/14 June
The Micronesian Championships have been postponed from the original date. We are currently seeking the advice of the Member Federations in the Micronesian Member Federations as to suitable alternative dates.
Melanesian Championships – 24/25 June
The Melanesian Championships have been postponed from the original date. We are currently seeking the advice of the Member Federations in the Melanesian Member Federations as to suitable alternative dates.
Oceania Half Marathon / Marathon – 4 July
At the present time the Oceania Half Marathon and Marathon events are still scheduled for the 4 July on the Gold Coast.
Educational Activities
Those activities that were originally scheduled alongside the Regional Championships will remain in place at the confirmed date of the Championships. Other Educational Activities planned for the later part of 2020 will go ahead as scheduled at this time.
