The Pacific Sprint Queen has come to Rio to show what she’s got.
A spectacular 100m in Suva last month lead to a new PB of 11.29s, a new National Record for Papua New Guinea, a direct Olympic Qualifier and therefor skipping the Preliminary Rounds at the Olympics.
This will be the second Olympic Games for the 100m – Sprinter after London 2012. Toea feels in much better shape and well prepared for competition this time.
Toea has been chosen as the wild card entry for the Olympic Games 2016, however, she didn’t need to make use of this privilege by qualifying directly. “It gives me a lot of confidence in my running and it shows me that my hard work pays off.” She is feeling good and ready to take on the big names in the business. Competing in the Pacific there is often a lack of strong competitors for her. As a “chaser” she will definitely have a lot of girls to run down in the upcoming races, which will hopefully lead to another PB because Toea as well as her coaches know “She can run faster!”
Toea points out that it is especially great being in Rio with her coaches Alison and Tony Fairweather and her team mates Rodman and Patty. The five of them have left Australia Monday, 1st August. Toea and PNG Coach Alison will stay with the PNG Team in the Olympic Village. “I am looking forward to meet the team, I know most of them and it is going to be a great time”, the PNG Sprinter said.
After the Games Toea will have a break and visit her family back home in Papua New Guinea. She is then planning on traveling back to the Gold Coast to keep up the training and get prepared for new challenges in the next season.
Especially the Commonwealth Games 2018 at the Gold Coast are coming up on the horizon with maybe even a chance for a medal…
