A total of 15 delegates from ten associations attended the Papua New Guinea Athletic Union Annual General Meeting in Lae last weekend. Lae, Port Moresby, Goroka, East New Britain, Simbu, Kainantu, Madang, Karkar, Bulolo and Makadui (Karkar) associations were represented at the meeting.The main business of the meeting following the tabling of reports was to elect a new executive for a two year term.
The core of the Executive was retained with Tony Green (President), Philip Rehder (Secretary), Gordon Kapak (Vice President) and Stephen Mombi (Treasurer). However three new executive committee members were elected: Sophia Marai(Port Moresby), Geoffrey Bai (Madang and Philip Kamane (Goroka).
The Meeting discussed the possible venues for next years National Championships and resolved to invite bids from interested centres. President Green said the Union Executive would also look seriously at staging a junior grand prix series next year with Bulolo, Karkar Island and Wewak possible venues with the event to be combined with final to be staged in conjuntion with the successful Highlands Momase Regional Championships.
